Before Week 1

Before the First Week

Creative Artwork

This artwork is representing how fairytales create an unachievable and unrealistic perception of life and this particular piece refers to Hansel and Gretel. The ground, the trees and the gingerbread house are made from the paper of storybooks to depict how traditional happy fairytale endings are mere fiction and not an expectation we should have of our own life.

Architecture

Glenn Murcutt's Simpson Lee House displays his architectural ethics of “touching this earth lightly” to create minimal environmental disturbance. The Simpson Lee House is built in sandstone country of the Blue Mountains World Heritage listed area. Consequently, the building was subject to conservative regulations regarding its appearance, heritage issues and bushfire management. Murcutt has employed a uniquely Australian architectural vocabulary by combining modernist geometry with vernacular forms and materials to accommodate the outback’s complex and rugged landscape.

Something Beautiful

This is a photo of Lake Geneva in Switzerland and the exceptional view made this destination so memorable. The clear blue sky, the mountains topped with ice and the city that bordered the crisp water was a sight I will never forget.
